|FIRST and foremost, the wheel must be
SQUARE AND ROUND. Then it must be open,
hungry and aggressive. The most common
way to do this is with an aluminum oxide
dressing stick. But, of most importance
is the... HOW TO! Soak the stick in water
or coolant until it is saturated (Approx.
15 min.) A dry powdery stick doesn't have
the same control to erode the bond
effectively. Continue to dip the stick in
water as necessary to keep it wet. Turn
on the power. Then turn off the power
unless you have a variable speed control.
If you have a speed control, reduce the
RPM. While the wheel is spinning, push the
stick STRAIGHT into the wheel. Do this until
it skids to a stop. Repeat several times
until the wheel is open and aggressive.
Do NOT move the stick SIDEWAYS, as
you only want to erode the bond in the
front and back of the particle... NOT on the
particle sides. This keeps the mesh (grit)
One way is to notice that the stick is
consumed quickly or... STOP the wheel.
Then with your finger nail or a 6" steel
scale, you will be able to feel the mesh
